Field Trip to Lyon Arboretum. Manoa

This morning I got to be a chaperone on one of Bella's Field Trips. This one was to the Lyon Arboretum, a nature hike thingy, next to Manoa falls by the old Paradise Park. It was pretty cool, I dont know if I would actually taken bella to see that stuff by ourselves, nothing too fancy. It was really cool though to hang out with Bella's classmates and get to know them better. Fun day.
Best quote of the day;
"Can anyone tell me what a rainforest is?" said the guide.
"....It's probably just like, i dunno, a forest that rains a lot" said Jazmyn, 6 yrs. old. Haha.

Get on the bus... a long bumpy ride in traffic to Manoa from Mililani
We got assigned the seat on the bus with the "wheel bump"... I used to love this seat as a kid, because it was like a foot rest. But now, being 6 feet tall, it was quite uncomfortable, my knees were bent up all the way to the next seat in front of me.
...the wheels on the bus...
At the arboretum, the kids played fun games like matching colors of plants, and exploring seeds and roots and stuff.
Tadpole hunt
Toad hunt... "no kissing please"
purty flowers
views
hike/ walk
get in the 'rainforest'
top of the hike
dominick there with his hood over his head... the mosquito's have taken over his ears and neck. ouch.
"I love Hawaii"
I found a tree penis. I made sure I pointed it out real loudly to all the kids.. "OMG, kids look, it looks like a ding dong!!!" (laughter ensues) j/k
"Duck, duck, goose" to pass the time before lunch.
Bella got 'goosed', then ran in a circle and slipped in the mud. Can anybody say 'sue job?' :)
I think these were Christmas trees, I dunno, I wasnt paying attention.
see this boy (pictured on the left) next to bella ? I used to be friends with his dad, Brian, like 12 years ago. He is a very fun kid.

They were filming "Lost" somewhere around Manoa falls. They are really trying to hunt me down so they can put me in the t.v. show. No, that wasnt me sneaking into the star trailers leaving love letters.

Ready, Ames, Shoot: The Ames Family

This afternoon, I met up with the Ames Family. We met at the district park in Waipio Gentry, a hop, skip, and a short car ride away from our respective houses. It was a great quick afternoon shoot. I took some baby pictures of there cutie pa-tootie daughter a while ago, and it was good to see her again. Good family, "Footwear optional"... i like it.

more coming.

Sam Flores "Kid Dragon" figure. I got mail

I got mail... big mail!

We received four big boxes from the store 'Upper Playground' earlier this week. I mean these boxes are big.. big enough for Bella to turn them into fake boats to play with after we opened them. I forgot we pre-ordered the new figure designed by Sam Flores, from the Upper Playground store back in July.
Yay! Me and Sam havent bought any toys for so long now (and you guys know how much we love toys), I feel like we've been out of that whole "Urban Vinyl" scene for some time now. Mostly because we dont have the money anymore to buy whatever we want. But we've really loved Sam Flores's stuff for some time now, and we couldnt pass on this one!
And I put it up. Put it on our entertainment center above the TV next to our Blaine Fontana print and our custom Labbit's. I like.

I like Sam Flores toys because they translate well from his art. Yeah, you can tell these are from the same artist that designed the toy yes?

... and if any of you out there can help me get these other colorways... lemme know!! chowder.
...especially this one! kapow!

adios amigos

"Feed My Tummy" custom toy show promo shoot.

Last week I was asked by the curator of the upcoming "Feed My Tummy" custom toy art show to shoot some promotional pics of the custom toys. Can somebody say Dream Job?!
The concept I had of the shoot being that these figures invade a kitchen in a restaurant in search of some food so they could "Feed My Tummy".

I love taking pictures of toys.

The art show is going to be on December 1st and will be held at the Pearlridge 'Prototype' store. It should be a killer show with custom toys designed by a huge amount of amazing artists like 'Angry Woebots', 'Scribe', '2H', 'Phu', 'Leecifer', and Lou Pimentel just to name a few. It's gonna be nice, check it out for sure. Especially if you are a toy fan like myself. Here are some pics of some of the hand painted custom toys that will be in the show. Thanks to the "Downtown" cafe located in the Hawaii Art Musuem for supplying a fun location and Kinohi a.k.a 'Haynmade' for curating the show and photoshoot.

Must feed our tummy's.

dont forget, December 1st @ Prototype. See you there.

Bella's Music Choices

Bella has been paying attention to the music me and Sam have been listening to in the car or on the radio at home. Now she is requesting that we play certain songs when we take car rides and stuff. I asked her if she wanted me to buy her a c.d. player for her room so that she can "jam out" whenever she wanted to at home. She said she would like that, but requested that I put the following songs on a c.d. for her. Some of the songs I dont even know where she would of heard them from... maybe at her cousins house or something. Because trust me, me and Sam are not listening to Lady GaGa.

Here is her request list.
1. Jay-Z~ Empire state of Mind (New York)... nice pick.
2. Taylor Swift~ You belong with me.
3. Bayside~ Moceanu (one of my personal favorites)
4. MxPx~ Secret Weapon
5. Lady GaGa~ Paparazzi
6. Pink~ Scurvy (from the spongebob movie)... dont think i'll be able to find this one
7. Feist ~ 1,2,3,4
8. Shakira~ She-wolf .. hahaha
9. Elton John~ Don't go Breaking my Heart
10. The Arcade Fire~ Wake up.
11. Katie Perry~ Hot and Cold (yikes)
12. Karen O and the kids~ the ENTIRE "Where the Wild Things Are" soundtrack... Bella absolutely loves every song.

... pretty cool choices I guess. As long as she doesnt start "sagging" her jeans, i'm okay with whatever she wants to listen to.

"Culture Shock" art show at Prototype

I stopped by the "Culture Shock" art show tonight at Prototype in Pearlridge. I only got to hang out for a while before Bella reminded me that she had a sleepover tonight, so I had to get her home. Some very nice art provided by 'Newkon', 'CKaweeks', and 'Pancho'. The artists were on hand signing everything from custom munny's to black books. Good times.

Behind the Scenes. Prototype Commercial

Friday, after I shot some family portraits at the beach, I met up with my "Kai Media" homies in chinatown to see if they needed any help filming the commercial they are working on. They are making a commercial for the store "Prototype", a sweet 30 second "lifestyle" spot. I was late for some early filming, but got there just in time for some A'ala park skateboarding.
Check out a few;
Larry, one of the actors (and he does his own stunts!!)
Backside radtastic stunt!

A post about Chinatown wouldnt be complete without having a picture of some crazy person. This one in particular had some 'chinese fighting' fish in her mouth-held aquarium. Lunch I presume.

you guys havent heard about our new gang?! The "K.K.K"... the Ku Klux Kamera gang baby!
5 camera action (if you count mine)
Chris's Pentax 76
Nicole, she be at the Pearlridge Prototype store. She brought some killer gear too!

... I showed up late to the shot.
Chris likes to peep on little boys with tight jeans
He also likes to make a pinhole on your face. "nice box" Chris.

the last shot of the day, this kid was getting "Beamed up"

look for the commercial somewhere soon.

:EDIT: the video was finished the same day.. Check it out, Kai Media is amazing.

I got discovered

I was driving in chinatown today, and they had a pretty big production going on in one of the streets. I dont know if they were filming "Lost" or some other movie or something, I didnt see any actors, but it looked like a pretty big production.

for about a hot minute I was daydreaming that some Producer would see me driving in my car and "discover" me!

It went something like this in my head;
"Hey look at that guy right there, the one driving that Jetta"~ the producer said to his assistant.
... I turned my head, "Who me?"
"You should be in our movie!! You are going to be fucking rich and will be able to buy all your friends and family everything they ever wanted!"~ said the Producer.
"No shit?", I said.
"You're dreams have just come true, now go park your car and sign these contracts"~said the producer.

something like that.

I have no room on my walls, but if I did....

I have absolutely no space on my walls to hang any more artwork. But if I did, I think I'd be picking up some of these prints from some of my favorite artist's.
